I live in a tropical country. For the most part of the year, we have a very hot humid season. So wearing hunter boots is not a fad around here. But i don't care! I love boots! I love to wear them!

When i was in Michigan some years ago, i so wanted to buy a pair of hunter wellington boots and bring it home. Too bad, it wasn't going to fit in my luggage anymore and i won't be able to use it here. But it's really a lovely pair that i would want to wear them everyday. Told my friends in MI to buy their own pair since they could use it more often than i'll do.

When i went to Hongkong last December of 2008, i think i saw some hunter wellies on sale. I wanted to buy a pair badly. I don't know but i just love sporting boots. I think they're a cool apparel. These particular brand of boots are interesting because they have a variety of style to choose from. Maybe someday, i get to wear this type of footwear whenever i want to.

long weekend

Ylangurl is bored yet excited for the long weekend to come. It's a short working week for her since last Friday was a holiday - Independence Day. She's happy she didn't have to work that day. Another long weekend she's about to enjoy this coming Friday, Lapulapu Charter Day. Well, the original date of holiday is on Wednesday but the company she's working with decided to swap it on Friday! Hurray! She have no special plans though but just being not in the office is a relief. Don't get her wrong, not that she likes to be out of work but she just wants to be free. She is so lazy these days.

Sinulog 2009

I know, there's much photos and stories about the Sinulog that you can read and view already. But let me share my little post anyway.

Sinulog is the most festive. Most celebrated. Most visited social occasion in the country if i may say. And the most awaited affair by most if not all Cebuanos. It's more than a week long celebration that culminates every 3rd Sunday of January with a grand mardigras participated not only by Cebuanos but by other neighboring provinces as well. New York crowd scene? Hongkong scene? Far cry from the Sinulog scene? Almost!

Holler to all the Cebuanos out there! Few more days and it's once again the most awaited Sinulog mardigras!

Starting Friday of last week, traffic is exasperating anywhere from Capitol to Fuente to Mango Avenue to Colon down to Sto. Nino Church. Festivity is in the air despite the gloomy weather these days. Hopefully the weather will cooperate come Sunday so that visitors and locals alike will enjoy the Sinulog full blast.

Don't wait 'till she looks at you! She has the gaze of a monster!! :D Since yesterday, traffic is already congested especially in streets and crossings where public cemeteries are located. I can just imagine the jampack of people tomorrow. Honestly, i don't like the sight of cemeteries. All the more that i don't like to visit. I get suffocated and i think i'll just pass out any moment because of the heat, crowd, smell and everything. Then again, i should pay homage to my departed loved ones.

While halloween costume parties are very common in other countries, i have to say it's a pitty because their cemeteries are unfrequented. They don't even recognize what really All Souls Day is for. Well, it all boils down to tradition. While we also have halloween parties here, i haven't really gone to one. And i know it's fun! Hhmnnn....

On a lighter note, what excites me most about halloween are the 'kakanins' like puto, budbud and biko! Yummm!

Well, Fridays, most favorite day of the week. To us, it's a no-uniform-day in the office. Hurrah! Goodbye to the lowsy tailored uniforms for a day. To some, this is the day when they could strut their most fabulous if not most outrageous outfits, lol!

Miss UN

On my way to work, I noticed that my beloved elementary alma mater is adorned with lots of flags. Oh, October, it's United Nations month. Back then, we usually have this annual Miss United Nations tilt. However, the winner is not determined by looks, presentation or intelligence like any other pageant there is. The winner was determined through a raffle. Each candidate will have to pick a paper and the winner will of course be the one who has picked the paper with the Miss UN title. I never participated in any of those contests not until when i was in grade six. I had to or else i'm incomplete in the requirements for that quarter. I did not won! And i was glad. Because i was Ms. Israel and my costume never had anything that speaks Israel. I just wore a simple dress, nothing more, nothing less. I remember my older sister was once Ms. Turkey and she used a blanket as her gown or cape. How about that? LOL! :D

From where i grow up, taking care of our elders is a tradition. Grandparents and old relatives stay with families and not in care centers. In other countries, old folks choose to live on their own or in care centers. It's probably just a matter of what is being accustomed. A few of my friends and former colleagues are now living abroad. They say that they will still come home and retire here and that there's nothing like home. Well, i couldn't agree more. But if anything, they still have other options too. They could stay in care centers or homecares. The people in these facilities may not be your own family but they're run by health workers who are more versed in taking care of older folks especially the sick. There's this homecare in Grand Rapids Michigan famous for its superb service. I should tell my friends in Michigan about this. I'm not sure how far is this from Southfield. It just came to my thoughts since two of my colleagues are in Michigan right now for a temporary assignment.

They say your hair is your crowning glory. Is it? Well, let's see. Try going to a beauty shop or store and you will see a wide array of hair products to choose from. You sometimes can't decide which products work better or you sometime question whether the advertisements are true or not. Try going to a beauty parlor and you will be amazed by the many services they offer from hair spa to hair cellophane to hair henna to hair wax to hot oil. I even once read an article about various ways of taking care of your tresses. With all of these fuzz about hair care, then your hair must really be your crowning glory. Why would one spend so much about the hair if it's not? So, let me admit, i for one is really a freak about my hair. I think i have tried a lot of products already just so for my quest of finding that perfect brand that will tame my hair. I probably would end up a bald woman with what i'm doing but thanks that i'm not seeing it a problem. I know for a fact though that hair loss is a problem to some. Have you heard about Philadelphia hair restoration specialist already? Don't worry folks, with the advent of today's medicines, you still can have that crowning glory of yours in perfect look.

Be on TV or print, you can't miss any topic about the US elections. Even in the loops of emails, stories about the elections are being circulated. So, i won't talk about it here in my blog. All the more that i'm not into politics, so it's really weird if i'd say a word or two about it. Not that i find it uninteresting, it's just one of those topics i find a hard time understanding. But i do enjoy watching debates. I admire how these candidates deliver their pieces. It somehow also stimulates your mind and prompts you to ponder on what's your take on given situations. Anyways, all i really wanted to say is that for my country also to have this user generated election coverage for viewing. It's really neat. Very prompt info about politics, an access to information politics minded people will enjoy. As you may know, our election process is not that high end yet. We still follow the very old fashion way of voting. With modern ways, voting is easy and fast. I just don't know though if it would create some lapses too.

Remember those times during your elementary years when you are asked to sign some autographs from your friends? More often than not, it always include the question that goes like - what do you want to become when you grow up? Most of my friends said they wanted to become a nurse. I never wanted to become a nurse. I hate blood. I hate injections. I think i'd pass out first, before a patient is saved. I don't like the sight of hospitals. Some of the friends said they wanted to become a teacher. Ok, that sounds better than becoming a nurse. But i never imagined myself as a teacher. I mean, i don't think i have that zealous patience to deal with students. I'm stubborn myself so i can't imagine how i would deal with stubborn students. Heheh. But i'd have to admit, a couple of times i would right i wanted to become a nurse or a teacher. Probably, just as to have a sense of belongingness or i ran out of other professions to write down. In reality, i wanted to become a CPA. I wanted to become a Certified Public Accountant and become a lawyer eventually, who knows. But it never happened, i took engineering instead. A few of my close friends became accountants and learned from them that financial statement preparation is never easy. Hearing it, I'm relieved i did not take accountancy at all. If i were a nurse, I'm probably out of the country right now just like what most of my classmates are. Well, i can go if i will work on it, right?

Was in the mall with friends then I saw this shop selling breads. It's basically a bakeshop in the mall. I asked my friend - will they gain enough? just selling bread alone? inside the mall, rental of space per square meter cost thousands? and in North Wing at that? To satisfy my curiosity, we went to the bakeshop and was very very surprised to discover the prices of the breads sold. And i was pretty convinced that they sure will gain more than enough! I think there's no bread that costs less than 25.00 pesos.

Here's why. I bought 3 pieces of bread - 2 garlic bread, 1 (i forgot the name) another bread and it cost me 133.00 pesos! But yes, the bread tasted so good. Even if it's quite expensive, i went back a week after to buy again garlic bread and tried some other kind of bread. I bought 5 pieces and it cost me 173.00 pesos. Tonight, i still can't contain my craving for the garlic bread. I bought 4 - that's 2 garlic bread, 1 eggstraordinary and 1 golden raisin. It cost me 131.00 pesos. Personally, i think it's too expensive. Well, it must go with the taste and the place.

I chitchatted with the cashier and i learned that the bakeshop's main branch is in Singapore. And if I wanted to drink coffee, i'd just go to the adjacent coffee shop and i can eat my bread there free of corkage. The two shops have the same owner/s.

Maybe, if i just go to the bakeshop near our house, my 100.00 pesos will take me home a lot of bread. Hehe :P

Ugly Betty

Are you watching the series? I am! I just finished the first and second seasons and i can't wait for the 3rd season. I'm not sure if it's being shown in America already. I really like the US version better compared to the Mexican/Colombian version entitled Betty La Fea. I like how witty the dialogues and the characters are. Also, it's a nice twist that Betty actually has boyfriend(s) and a lovelife which is not the case in the other versions. Betty has always been portrayed to be madly in love with his boss in the very beginning. The US version portrayed a bubbly and intelligent Betty who is at one point in her life was torn between two lovers. Hehe. I really can't wait for the 3rd season - can't wait to see who she chooses. Go go Betty!

feeling sporty and ugly betty

After office hours last Friday, i went outside and play volleyball and then lawn tennis afterwards. I'm never never a fan of volleyball. Ok, i watch volleyball games but i don't play. I just think it's a torture to my gorgeous hands (hehe!). But i just played a little since i was listed to play in the department's sporstfest activity. I at least have to hit the ball you know. I can't stand the pain in my hands so i played tennis instead. Again, not that i'm good at it. LOL!

Later, me and my colleagues went to Paseo and ate tapsilog. Went home at around 2am and then i still managed to watch a few episodes of Ugly Betty. I slept around 5:00am and woke up around 5:00pm to a severe body ache. I cannot move my arms and my hips. Shoots! That was just about 2 hours of running and playing but it felt like i'm beaten up! I slept again and then woke up at 8:00pm and ate my first meal of the day. I later went to Fuente and bought some dibidis. Went home and watched Ugly Betty Season 2. :P

For The First Time

Yah, i've already seen the movie entitled For The First Time, starred by the mega daughter, KC Concepcion. Really, i just wanted to watch the movie because i'd like to see Greece where several scenes of the movie were shot.

Went to Ayala first but they've changed screens already. We went to SM instead and glad that it's still showing on it's 4th week. I said we, meaning i was with 3 female pals (Ky, Jung and Pai) and 1 male pal who requested for his identity to remain unknown! LOL! Di sya nahan hibaw-an nitan-aw, haha! Oh, my comments about the movie? As usual, i'm never a movie critic. :P

It's still Thursday but it so feels like Friday! Almost everyone left the office early and are off somewhere. It's because we are having a long weekend! It's no work tomorrow because the Tuesday holiday (Osmena Day) was swapped to tomorrow. I'm just glad the telecon ended earlier. It already feels boring being left, let alone having to attend a telecon with offshore counterparts.

I'm not going anywhere, just having some lunch and dinner invites from friends. I got a busy day tomorrow ;)

I love to wear dresses and skirts and all those girly outfits at times. But say comfort and getting cool? I'd say nothing beats wearing a tee and a pair of jeans. If you do not see me wearing shorts, i'm wearing pants or jeans. I wear all types of jeans from bootleg to low waist to cargo to skinny to straight-cut jeans. I am never the sporty type of person. I just like doing things that doesn't require me to sweat. That probably just me being lazy. Lately, i realize, i should do something worthwhile and healthy. Doing sports of any sort would surely add stamina to my weakling body. Not to mention that it will burn the extra fats i accummulate from eating and not doing any exercise.

I may never play sport a lot but i do love watching sports especially basketball. It turned out that wearing the appropriate basketball shoes can make a difference. Well, of course, wearing something that is comfortable would make sense. Let alone wearing that favorite atheletic shoes of yours.

Since i'm not into sports, maybe i could go for being a cheerleader. I love cheerleading and i love dancing! Wow, how i envy those pretty cheerleaders in their gorgeous cheerleading uniforms and colorful pompoms. Back in highschool, i'm usually up late because i'd watch the basketball tournament in my area.

What about you? Are you into sports? If not, then be fashionably sporty starting this very moment. Shape up and be healthy! And of course, wear that best looking outfit there is.

Last July 19, I met in person another fellow blogger who's also a member of Bisdakplanet. The meeting place? Not your conventional meeting areas i.e. malls, restaurants or bars. We met in the hospital! Yes folks, we met in the hospital. She hails from Utah but has decided to come home and deliver her 2nd baby here in Cebu. The last info i got from her was that she's going to have her baby through caesarian delivery on the 8th of August at 7:00am in Succour Hospital. But i was surprised when she texted me friday evening that she already delivered her baby and that she was confined in Cebu Doctors Hospital instead. So, by Saturday evening, Glorie (also a blogger) and I visited her and see each other for the first time. I'm surprised even more! She looks bigger in pictures but in reality, she's so petite i can very well comprehend why she has to go through caesarian delivery. But she's very tough, she doesn't seem to have undergone an operation or something. :) Well, let's give her the credit of telling us her birthing story...

Michelle is a former colleague who now resides in Canada. She is one of the few people i look up to. Intelligent, good natured, pretty and very down to earth. Today, July 4, she'll tie the knot to the man of her life. I'm so happy for her! :) With that being said, the pressure i impose on myself is very high! Why? Riza, also a former colleague (now living in Michigan) is about to become a mother. Riza and Michelle are my two "tamdanans" (sort of measuring device) that by the time they get married, i should be getting married by then too. Hmnn i still have a few years to work on it! LOL! :P Geez, help me God! LOL!

I always watch this local tv show every Sunday night because it features the best of houses in the country. They also give you ideas on how to beautify your homes and lots of tips on building and decorating your houses. More often than not, i'm left to thinking and dreaming of my own dream house. I then would grab a pen and a notebook and start drawing a sketch of what my house should look like. I try to calculate how much would it cost me. I'm very elated when i discovered that i can do some house plans in as easy as 1 2 3. Making home plans can never be any interesting than by just clicking on some important details and viola, you get the estimated cost of your dream house. It's really amazing! Houseplansandmore also features some interesting news like finding color for your bathroom and how to organize your bathroom. You better check out log home plans and be amazed by the beautiful designs.

PUJ strike!

I woke up this morning to a text message my officemate sent. She said that public utility jeepneys are on strike. How would I come to work? Get a taxi? Or will I just be absent? The latter is very much a tempting option however i can't be absent. I have to be at work and get things done. I got up and got ready to leave. True enough, the roads aree empty of PUJs. Private vehicles rule the streets. I finally was able to hail a cab after waiting for quite some time. Of course, during strikes, cabs are in demand and some drivers would even charge than usual. I was surprised to notice that starting from Fuente circle down to Lapulapu bridge, traffic was congested! Why the heavy traffic when there are no jeepneys around? Unbelievable!

Here at work, administrators decided to allow everyone to go home as early as 5:30pm and offered some lift from hired busses. I'm still at work now, i hope the transport strike is over when i'm out.

Gosh... we're halfway through the year! June is about to finish, here comes July!!! It's sooo fast! Can you believe it? I can't! I can't believe that i'm celebrating my birthday again. It's too quick! :P

My friend, Gugs, suggested i make my wishlist already. I just sighed. I know none of wishes is ever coming :( I'm not being pessimistic, i just know. Well, maybe not coming anytime soon. :)

For days, I have planned on going to the bank and pay my credit card bills but i never got around to it. I'm already 2 days overdue so i really tried my best to drop by the bank outside MEPZ today. I'm surprised to see that the door has the close signage on it. I thought it's just the door to the ATM machines. I called my officemate and inquired where is the main door to the bank located? She let me realized that today is non banking day since it's a holiday in Lapulapu City! Arrgghh! How can i not remember it? Yes, i made it to the bank only that i made it on the wrong day!

By the way, we'll have the holiday on Friday instead. Palahi among office para long weekend mi.

Lovers

For the last couple of days, i've been hooked up to another Koreanovela entitled Lovers. It's starred by one of my favorite Korean actresses, Kim Jung Eun. She also starred the hit series Lovers in Paris and Princess Lulu. Producer of Lovers is also the producer of Lovers in Paris and Lovers in Prague. I think Lovers is the last to the three series shoot outside Korea.

When i saw the commercial that it will be aired on local channel tv, i immediately look for a dvd copy of this series. And so i did find a copy and so is the start of my sleepless nights which just ended last Saturday. As usual, i kept on laughing and crying while watching the series. The subtitle wasn't really good but i managed to hang on to the show 'till the last episode. Vivian (from her character in Lovers in Paris) never ceases to make me attached to her characters, lol!

P.S. Lee Seo-jin is officially one of my Korean 'fafas'! :P He's really not that good looking (at least for me) but when you get to see him in the series. You'll definitely fall for him! He has a nice physique and like almost all Korean male actors, he has the skin and fingernails that's so nice, much more like of a woman's.

While not all women may agree that shopping is one of the top things we enjoy doing. I considered shopping as one of the remedies to depression or boredom. Haven't you noticed that everytime after you shop, there's something in your face that glows? And you just can't help but smile especially if you just bought something really nice like dress clothings perhaps?

I normally like to mix and match outfits. If i have a daughter, i sure would have her wear something that's matching in colors. Are you looking for winter gear for girls? Better check out this cute pink hats and skiwear you can buy online. They are really adorable!

just another boring weekend

It's a long weekend for us as the Independence Day holiday is moved to Monday instead of Thursday. I was just at home the whole time watching tv and sleeping. Last night, i went to Fuente to scout for some new dvd's of Koreanovelas. I just bought one entitled Hana Kimi. I'm gonna watch it maybe next weekend yet. Today, I went to a former colleague's new flat and checked out the place. I myself is looking for a room/apartment because i'm quite tired of commuting already. Her place was quite ok. Not too expensive, near to the main road and safe. The view at the rooftop is nice. In the corridor, she can she the Mactan old bridge and the nearby hotel.

I later went to GaiMac (as my officemates would call) and bought some cutty swimsuits. heheh... I rarely get to visit this department store around Lapulapu City.

I watched the movie Caregiver starred by Sharon Cuneta last Wednesday. I was with as usual my girl friends who gets to enjoy watching Filipino movies sometimes. I thought i was gonna cry buckets of tears all throughout the duration of the movie but i didn't. I've seen the trailers often on TV and it seemed that everything was just it. I didn't get to see more heartwarming melodramatic scenes other than those shown already in the commercials. But of course, the characters in the movie were all good. Maybe, if i haven't watched the trailers that much, I would have appreciated the movie better. The thought of leaving your family to take care of other people is really painful when you think of it. This is the plight of most Filipinos. What's your take? Be with your family in uptight situation or away from them but financially stable?

I can't imagine how stupid i can get! Earlier today, i was ready to go to the office. I'm all set with my umbrella since it was raining and blue set of uniform. I was just waiting for a jeepney. Then it hit me that i was wearing the wrong set of uniform! Monday's uniform is supposedly the pink set. So i immediately ran home and changed clothes. I was contemplating on the way to the office. I can't even recall what made me realize that i was wearing the wrong set. Huh! This can't go on... this is alarming! LOL!

Alright! Alright! The design and content of each blog is according to the discretion of the owner. I know that and I respect that. However, me as a blog hoper and lurker have this thing on others' blog that i kind of don't like.

I really don't like it when the blog doesn't have a picture nor a written profile about the author. Especially if it's a personal blog which is always the case of the blogs i often visit or exchange links with. I mean you read their blogs because you want to connect to their views, experiences, thoughts and rants perhaps but i find it less interesting if i cannot relate who the blogger or owner is. For mysterious reasons, without profiles might be catchy. Others may opt that way for privacy. Either way, I really prefer to read and lurk blogs with profiles especially if i don't know the blogger personally or i just met him/her online for the first time. There are exceptions though - that is when the entries or post are really interesting that i wouldn't mind if i do not know who the author is.

Now you know why i never leave my layout (if i change layout) without my picture! LOL! :D

My Top 5 Things To Do:

1. Wait for a specific date in the calendar.

2. From #1, I have to decide between option A or B.

3. If i'll choose option A, then save all my files, process all my papers.

4. If i'll choose option B, then still save all my files, concentrate on current tasks.

5. Top 1-4 are really crucial. Right now, the top thing i need to do is cut my nails, arrange my stuff so that if I choose option A, i'm ready! (not that there's a connection between my nails and option A, i just need to cut my long fingernails!)

Now, what the heck am i talking about? You will know soon enough.

This post is the continuation to my previous entry on meeting another Bisdakplanet member.

Glorie and I picked up Chikai and her husband at Pier 6 last April 29 at around 9:00pm. Since it was a bit late, we were left with few choices on where to eat. So we ate our dinner at NeoNeo Grill in Mabolo. We then just toured around the city (Waterfront, Paseo, IT Park, Mango Avenue) for an hour or so. Glorie and I thought that the couple must be tired from the entire boat trip from CDO.

The following night, I invited Chikai to watch the movie When Love Begins but of course she could not leave her husband alone. Well, men don't usually like drama-lovestory movie and Tagalog at that! So, i went ahead and watch the movie with my officemates (planned 2 weeks ahead). Glorie was out busy with her business. I watched the last full show by the way because we did not make it to the 7pm showing. It was too late for a night out for Glorie, Chikai and I. Sorry Chikai for that but we hope you enjoyed your short visit here in Cebu. It was really nice meeting her in person. She is pretty and warm as she is in her blog :)

drag race

When i was still a kid, I used to watch motocross competitions in Reclamation Area. The excitement that i used to feel then ignited when I watched the motorcycle drag race last night. It's frightening looking at those riders almost delivering themselves to death but 'twas cool at the same time. Saturday night could have been cooler since cars were racing but we were not able to catch it. Better luck next time!

i was in the hospital...

Yup! I was in the hospital last 3 weeks ago. I woke up to a severe stomachache thursday morning so I took antacids but i was never relieved. I decided to get myself a medical checkup. 'Twas my second attempt actually because i was in the OPD last time. I was dismissed because i was relieved when the doctor arrived - meaning the medicine took effect. Last March 13 was the real one. My stomache was impossibly hurting. I had to be admitted and went through some tests to include endoscopy and ultrasound. The endoscopy was not painful but uncomfortable. It lasted for about 3-5 minutes but it felt like forever! I was holding on to my dear life while the tube was inserted through my mouth down to the esophagus to see the insides of my intestines. I shed tears while it was done, really. Fortunately my intestines were fine but was full of acid. I can see the yellowish substance on the monitor. At least the doctor was a joker, helped ease my fear. And the nurses whom i thought were bitches at first were actually very very nice. They kept on calming me down. Turned out i was having reflux esophagitis and bile gastritis. Now i have to be careful of what i eat - avoid all sorts of vitamin Cs, citrus fruits, milk, etc. But because i also had an ultrasound of my whole abdomen, the doctors found out some crystals (i wish these crystals are saleable hehe) on both of my kidneys and a stone in my gallbladder which is non obstructing at present. Which means I have to be more extra careful in what i eat should i want not to be bugged by the stone! Avoid all fatty foods!!! Basically, I should be on a strict food diet now. Avoid all salty foods, etc, etc. It's an ordeal. I was discharged from the hospital Saturday afternoon after much convincing moments with the doctors because i was already bored. And eating "lugaw" in all of my meals was not either helping. See, i'm that stubborn. Soft diet, soft diet for at least a month but just when i arrived home - i ate rice! :P And what's the saddest part of all these? I can no longer eat my ever favorite mango fruit :(

Since I had a long weekend last weekend because of the Holy Week, i was contemplating not on my sins but on where to go to. However, i may not do all those traditional religious holy week stuff that most Catholics do but I normally would just stay at home. I could have gone to Bantayan Island with friends but for some reasons i did not. On Thursday i was so bored i asked my friend Glorie to hang out anywhere not at home. We ended up chatting and idling in Hadsan Cove, an old inexpensive beach resort around Lapulapu. It was not much of an eventful day but at least i was out... :D

I hope everyone had a very good and blessed holy week. As for me, i was off from work but i went nowhere. I was just at home lazing... aw, i was at the beach last Thursday with my friend Glorie. We were just out there chatting and idling. Bored girls, lol! :D

Anyways, i got this picture that reminded me of Michigan during easter sunday. If anyone of you been around to this area, please smile for me. It is where i stayed. This is crazy but i am missing Michigan a lot. :(
